The above picture tells the story. We arrived to temperatures in the low 50’s
and 45 mile per hour winds. The wind
was so intense that the sound company for the festival was disassembling the PA
system for fear that it would be blown over.
This eliminated most of the cultural events from the daylong
program. Anything that required
speaking or music was dropped, but we decided to go for it minus our
announcer. As it turned out we were the
only group to perform that day. We set
up beside the stage so that it would provide some shelter from the wind. Even so, the mats kept blowing up in the air
as we tried to set them up. We finally
got them somewhat anchored, and the sun quickly warmed up the mat surface so
that our bare feet didn’t freeze. Once
we got rolling we quickly fell into our routine and had a great time. A supportive crowd formed to watch the show
and we all ended up with a great story to tell. The members of the VKS, Merrifield Dojo demo team are: Art
Alabin, Greg Hilgenberg, Michael Patruznick, Steve Wolf, Tim Felegie, Asim
Hanif, Bob Gardner, Nick Federov and Marion Lebensbaum. Below are more pictures.
